PageRank: Google PageRank is dead?

Google dropped Google keyword tools for Google Keyword tools planner  yet no PageRank update, isn’t that threaten to bloggers? Earlier before this time, the best way to identify website PageRank without wasting much time is through Google toolbar for browsers but everything is just going the way many bloggers can’t predict this day, with the current rumour in blog-o-phere, is likely that there will be no PageRank update in this season, since Google has last updated their PageRank almost 6-month ago which is depicting a kind of doubt in the mind of bloggers whether Google PageRank has finally dead. The non-tech-savvy Google toolbar is used for people to identify the trust level of a webpage has based on it Google PageRank number. I currently believed that if this is to be asked from Google that; when is the next PageRank likely to be updated, there is high tendency that silent will be the best answer because of their privacy as well as the personality of their algorithm.

Google failure to update PageRank may be killing some webmasters since it’s one of the best ways to commend the effort of webmasters on their industrious activities online. Below are the dates of Google PageRank analysis from 2007 to the last update which was Feb 4th 2013.

28th April 2007

26th October 2007

9th January 2008

29th April 2008

27th September 2008

30th/31st December 2008

1st/2nd April 2009

27/28th May 2009

30th October 2009

31st December 2009

April 2010

January 2011

June/July 2011

1st week August 2011

7th November 2011

7th February 2012

2nd May 2012

2nd August 2012

7th November 2012

4th February 2013.

From the above analysis, it is obvious that the minimum PageRank update per year is 3-4 except 2010, yet we have just had one update this year (2013) which was the one of 4th February 2013.

PageRank PageRank: Google PageRank is dead?

From my personal update observation, it will be very risky this time to manipulate Google PageRank update, am not thinking about building quality backlinks toward our site though but getting backlinks toward our blog/website from illegal way.

As a matter of fact, manipulating Google PageRank this time will be very hard indeed therefore; it is a wise decision if one can use this delay avenue to build quality backlinks toward our site, building our Domain authority and reputation.

The real simplification of Google PageRank is the toolbar which is often a complex algorithm and one out of ten ways in which Google work underneath the hood, in the same way I have also come to noticed that for Google PageRank toolbar not showing page PageRank number, it does not mean that such page does not have a rank, in fact I have seen the case where certain page in a site was ranked higher than the site homepage, but for a new site, for Google toolbar not showing PageRank it may be real that the page have no PageRank update yet just like the issue of the this blog you are reading now.

Despite that many webmasters worked very hard to increase their PageRank update, there is a tendency to have a drop in PageRank as a result of Google Panda update or penalty from the big G which one of the blog I love to read fell into this category, from 4 PageRank to 2 PageRank…Pathetic!

I believed that the amount of unique visitor that Google send toward a website does not depend on it PageRank, and when such as site or blog is hits by Google panda, Google may stop indexing such site or blog.

But if however that Google we one day update their PageRank, to get ranked according to our satisfaction, there will be need to build our backlinks and get quality links toward our blog from a reputable site or blog with atleast PageRank of 3.

Google PageRank this year (2013) creating awaiting time for everybody in their algorithm coupled with fact and peradventure could be eliminated from the original Google PageRank which was created and name after Larry Page.

Google PageRank is the best way to identify how often a webpage is been crawled by search engine most especially Google search engine just from my observation. One great thing I observed about webpage with high PageRank is that many of their pages were indexed and much available on search engine than that of webpage with a low PageRank base on the crawling statistics. Many may think that since Google PageRank has not been updated for quite a long  time that it’s valueless but to me it is definitely not valueless since Google uses it to identify when  contents are been duplicated.

Final view: Only Google  can give proper interpretation on how PageRank works and when the next PageRank will be updated, concentrate on building backlinks, domain name authority and when Google finally update PageRank, we’ll the earn a better position.

May be its to early if we say Google has stopped its update. But the fact shown that there is no more update since February as you describe above. This is going to be the most anticipated issue for many bloggers.

    Great post my friend

      Hi Okto,

You are right but I believed it is only Google that can affirmed that. Something of this nature happened 2010 and at last it was updated after almost 8 months.

    Hi Adesanmi,

You’ve raised some interesting points. The PageRank debate is one I’ve been following closely over the past months. There are many opinions surrounding the current value of PageRank in ranking algorithms.

Some prominent SEO’s believe inactivity in PageRank updates may indicate that Google is scrapping it. And would that be better, or worse?

Others believe Google PageRank is alive and well and that Google has harshly penalized anyone that promotes themselves as being in the “SEO” business. I checked Moz.com the other day, and they’re still at PR 2. But how does that account for BruceClay.com, at PR 5? (It might be something Rand said about Google rankings. :-))

    I’ve enjoyed your perspective,

    Cole

      Hi Cole,

Scrapping PageRank may turn out to be the worst thing ever from Google, but if however Google want to scrap Google PageRank, they will have to replace it with something else which is yet unknown just like Google keyword tools to keyword planner. Glad to have you here Cole!

I don’t obsess over what Google’s doing anymore Adesanmi because I can’t keep up with it and half the time I don’t understand it. I’m sure for businesses who depend more on that then they would be the ones really having a fit about this but that’s definitely not me.

I’ve been stuck at a PR3 for two years now so as long as they don’t knock me out of the search engines I’m good to go.

Interesting perspective though and will be curious to see what really happens next.

      Madam Adrienne,

Absolutely all bloggers can’t really wait for Google to update PageRank this time despite the fact that it has taken too much of time to be updated, hopefully to see you in atleast PageRank of 5 if Google is going to update it one of this day

This is truly a worrying issue. With respect to whether Pagerank is dead or not, I guess it will be prudent for we bloggers to keep our fingers and wait for the next line of action from Google.

Oh, I didn’t realize that Google has not updated the PageRank for such a long time! Not too sure this is good or bad, but just hope that Google will continue to send me more organic traffic.

    Great blog post, Adesanmi.

Got a friend who works for Google and he said they’ll be rolling out a brand new ranking system early 2014, at which time all Page Rank numbers will go away. It’s called GINA (Google INdexing Algorithm) and it’s a brand new way that pages will rank.. no longer 1 through 10. I’m hearing that there will be a new set of markers for webmasters to gauge how well their sites are doing, but like the current indexing of pages, webmasters won’t get an inside look into all contributing factors.
    Get ready for GINA.

      Hi Mark,

What a great update, if Google choose to follow that way,it may likely be a better decision or otherwise but better still, let wait and see what Google is up to.

      Hi Olamosh,

The death of Google PageRank will cost bloggers a lot but I believed Google will replace it with another reasonable algorithm

Personally I think that PageRank is dead and people will start using something like MozRank to see if the site is good or not. PageRank seems to be ditched like a few other Google products that bloggers used. Maybe they will update it to check for social media to determine ranking too?

      Hi Martin,

I think we never can affirm that Google PageRank is finally gone, I think we just have to wait for a while and see what Google will finally do about PageRank update.

    Hey Adesanmi,

Great write buddy. For me, I think PR isn’t dead … yet. Now everyone is focusing more on PA and DA but PR still plays a role.

Most important, focus on content and the rest will follow :)
